Best New Mixes from June 2020

How do you spend your time at home? Is the music always in a background? We can assure you that that's the case with Delayed HQ. We have compiled a list of 20 mixes that we enjoyed the most in the last few weeks. Hours and hours of exceptional house, techno, breaks, ambient, downtempo, and everything in between.

Janosch - Oslated Mix Episode 203

In the last couple of years, Korean-based record label Oslated has built the reputation as one-stop for quality electronic music, especially the realm of dub and ambient techno. Together with its sister label Huinali, the Seoul crew regularly delivers exceptional releases by producers from all over the world. With a carefully curated line of DJs, Oslated's podcast series is no different. The latest mix in their series comes from my favorite, Janosch (formerly known as cmd q). Leipzig-based producer delivers a mind-bending live set, made exclusively out of his unreleased material. This is minimal deep techno at its best.

Shielding - Wisdom Teeth radio show at Noods Radio

Ahead of the release of his new EP on Wisdom Teeth (out on July 10th), Stockholm-based Shielding hosted the latest episode of Wisdom Teeth show on Noods radio. As brilliant as his work in the studio, Shielding's mix is an outstanding ode to home listening. His style could go into the micro-house realm. It relies on the use of percussions and airy pads but in such a subtle and intelligent way, which makes it very pleasurable to listen to. This mix and his upcoming EP 'Collecting Seaweed' should be on your 'must listen' list in the next weeks.

Will Oirson - MNMT 264

The Something Something founder Will Oirson is well known for his marvelous TSS radio show that focuses on ambient and electronica realms. The radio show used to be one of the favorites on Red Light Radio's programming. After the closure of the radio, Will and TSS shifted focus to podcast series and TSS record label, which will celebrate its first release on July 13th. We are happy to premiere one of Will's tracks from TSS' inaugural release, but for this occasion, let's say a few words about this mix. Monument series has been one of my go-to places for deep techno for some time. Will Oiron's contribution brings refreshment to the series in the shape of this beautiful downtempo mix. Very well executed and thoughtfully planned, this mix has been successfully tested as a driving companion and best friend during lazy Sunday πŸ™‚ .

Nadia Struiwigh - SoHaSo Podcast 040

The future of electronic music sounds like this. The latest mix in the SoHaSo podcast series comes from incredibly talented Nadia Struiwigh, who is not a stranger on our platform. CPU Records, Denovali and DFA affiliate, doesn't fail to impress us with her immaculate blend of ambient, electronica, IDM and techno, both in the studio and behind the decks. And this mix is a perfect representation of Nadia's skills.

Fred P - Bolting Bits Mix

One of the producers that had a significant influence on my taste in house music is for sure my fellow New Yorker that currently resides in Berlin, Fred P. Either under his widely known moniker Black Jazz Consortium, Anomaly, FP-Oner or just Fred P, the artist's soulful approach to house music is something that beats the test of time and shines as bright as when Fred first started releasing music 15 or so years ago. I listened to this mix while driving through Brooklyn on a hot summer day with windows down. The positive energy was blasting out of my car. Yeah, I was that guy (busted!). For younger generations who look at the word 'deep house' with a cringe, most likely because of Beatport's butchering of the same, THIS is the Deep House, a beautiful deep house (I got emotional for a sec here πŸ™‚) that shaped the whole generation of party-goers around early '00.

Lux - YSPS #031

I have to admit that I was surprised when I heard this mix from Lux. Surprised positively, because this incredibly talented DJ presented a new side of hers that I haven't heard before. This mix is cosmic and spacey. Yes, it has recognizable Lux's breakbeat moments, but the whole aesthetics of the mix is different from usual Lux's mixes. And that can only be a good thing. Versatility is one of the strongest traits of a good DJ. Well done, Lux!

Steffen Bennemann - Dwarfs

One of the masterminds behind the Nachtdigital festival, Steffen Bennemann, delivers this magnificent mix that travels through realms of ambient, electronica, downtempo, and experimental. Essential home listening.

Forest Drive West - Midgar Takeover

Livity Sound affiliate, Forest Drive West, and his powerful take on percussion-based techno will undoubtedly do the trick if you're in the party mood. This recording from his live set at Midgar Label Night in Berlin in November of 2019 is everything that we like about FDW's style. Uncompromised, driving, techno that pushes the boundaries with its complex rhythms and multi-layered percussions.

Aaron J - TSS podcast 02

The mastermind behind Boston-based Sure Thing, Aaron J delivers this beautiful mix for The Something Something's podcast series and serves as a perfect continuation of the inaugural mix in this series from Shoal that is still on rotation at our HQ. Whether it's more dance floor or home listening oriented, Aaron's track selections and mix progressions are always on point, which makes his mixes very pleasant to listen. This 2hr ambient and downtempo mix is a great morning companion and something you should definitely start your day with.

Iron Curtis & Johannes Albert - Wemoto Radio 008

Feeling down? I'm sure that this mix can help. A burst of positivity during this mix is something that everyone deserves. Long time friends and collaborators, Iron Curtis and Johannes Albert aka Moon, recently released a fantastic sophomore album named "Moon II" via Frank Music imprint. In the light of their release, the German duo made this mix and talked to radio Wemoto. Good energy between these two friends is evident and transforms perfectly in the music they make in the studio and play out. If you haven't already, I highly recommend listening 'Moon II' LP and this mix. You owe it to yourself πŸ˜‰

Sebastian Mullaert - BNR Guest MIx

This mix brought back some memories for sure. Even though it features some of Mullaert's unreleased and upcoming material, there's that recognizable Minilogue style throughout the mix. The style that many of us fell in love with 20 years ago, the style that Sebastian continued to evolve further with his solo work, the style that will never go 'out of style'…This is melodic electronic music done properly. This is Minilogue 2.0

Leafar Legov - live [21:12:20]

A mesmerizing ambient mix from one of the main Giegling stalwarts, Leafar Legov. The mix was streamed on Giegling's website a few weeks ago as a part of an exclusive online event.

Bocksrucker - Live [Neubau takeover]

A few days ago, Tbilisi-based Mutant Radio hosted Neubau records takeover. One of its co-founders, Florian Bocksrucker performed a live set that I enjoyed listening to tremendously. Bockrucker's style is very delicate, and something that requires active listening. It's not a mix that you'll play in the background, but rather the mix that you'll pay attention to progression and every detail that comes and goes.

Katerina - Radio Raheem Milano 06.17.2020

If you fancy a more eclectic approach in radio shows, Tigersushi and Hivern Discs affiliate, Helsinki-based Katerina will take you for a lovely ride through hip-hop, breaks, and House in her latest mix which was broadcasted on Radio Raheem in Milano.

Carsten Jost @ Montez Press Radio NYC

Deep House, anyone? Um, yes, please! Dial Records co-founder, Carsten Jost, is one the artists on the international underground scene that keeps the great legacy alive as well as pushing the boundaries of this beloved genre through his work with a label, in the studio and of course behind the decks. His latest mix for NYC-based Montez Press Radio is ear candy for all of us who keep deep House close to our hearts.

Joakim x Justin Strauss [Tigersushi x Crowdspacer takeover]

Another feature from Tbilisi-based Mutant Radio and their' Takeover series' made it to our list for quite a reason. NYC's own Justin Strauss b2b with Joakim in 'Tigersushi x Crowdspacer takeover' episode. Two long time friends and one of the most versatile DJs joined forces and delivered this eclectic journey that can serve as a music lesson for most of us.

Konduku - The Memoir Page 46

Hypnus Records' podcast series - The Memoir is one of the most impressive ones on SoundCloud. Artists are invited to make a mix exclusively out of their own work, and more often than not, these mixes are made out of unreleased material. For the latest installment in the series, the Swedish platform welcomes Konduku. The producer who turned many heads in the last few years since his debut LP on Nous'klaer Audio. Konduku has become known for his style of complex rhythms and trippy atmospheres. This mix is creme de la creme of deep atmospheric techno. Besides unreleased stuff, it features forthcoming material that Konduku will release on Delsin, DISK, and his home label - Nous'klaer Audio.

Kev Sheridan - Body & Soul Isolation Station Mix

Man of the moment, Kev Sheridan, released a phenomenal EP on Maeve imprint just a few days ago. 'It's Gonna Be Perfect' is the track that brought us so much joy in last year or so, every time we would hear it at the parties being played from the Maeve gang. And now, it's finally out for everyone's enjoyment, but let's focus on the mix for the moment. Kev made this mix exclusively for Body & Soul. The famous Irish festival didn't open its doors this year from very well known reasons, but that didn't stop the crew behind it to distribute amazing music and festival vibes to their fans. The Body & Soul crew teamed up with' The Isolation Station' and brought a pure DIY festival at home experience. Kev's mix was one of many that were featured, and it's a party mix all around! Groovy and uplifting, this mix should be on your workout playlist...since we can't be on the dance floor just yet.

Kim Ann Foxman - Good Room Livestream Sessions

NYC callin'! Due to the familiar situation we are in, we cannot go to our favorite clubs and dance our asses off with friends. That doesn't mean that these clubs are not working hard to keep the spirit high and local scene as alive as possible. Good Room crew has been doing Livestream Sessions with local force from beloved Bad Room, and it's just brilliant. For this occasion, I picked this 5hr set by Kim Ann Foxman. Quite a journey this is. As eclectic as a mix gets, but in the right way. Kim visits all the corners of electronic music in a tasteful way.

Shoal - Inveins 069

Slowly but surely, Amsterdam-based Shoal is cementing his place as a usual suspect here at Delayed. His talent shines equally in the studio as well as behind the decks. In the past, we featured Shoal's live set (which is still on rotation at our HQ's), his tracks, and now it's time for some DJ magic. The mix Shoal made for Italian music platform Inveins fits perfectly in the aesthetics of his work in the studio. Techno trip through hypnotic rhythms and dark atmosphere, buckle yourself.
