Best New Mixes from December 2019

After the festive period and time spent with our families we are back with more music, with mixes from DJs around the world that we enjoyed listening during cold December days. As usual, we covered wide spectrum of electronic music, from ambient to his paced techno and everything in between.

LEVL - XLR8R Podcast 624

LEVL is a project by Forest Drive West, DB1 and Felix K, three friends who’ve met a few years ago around Felix K’s Hidden Hawaii label. The work among the three of them resulted in two EPs, LEVL#1 and LVEL#2 which found their homes in Warp’s sub label Arcola and Nullpunkt, parent label of Hidden Hawaii. The trio has also been performing all nighter b2b2b’s and now through this podcast they did for XLR8R, we have an opportunity to hear a glimpse of how this collaboration sounds in a club environment. This mix consists of original work by LEVL and solo releases from its members and it’s a mind bending journey through drone ambient, dub techno, UK bass and beyond.

Pablo Bolivar - Musica Para Estar vol.17

One of my favorite mix series... Pablo Bolivar’s Musica Para Estar going strong with its 17th edition. As usual Pablo picked his favorite records of the year and made this heartwarming mix. Such a beauty!

Prins Thomas - Dekmantel Podcast 262

Space disco wouldn’t be what it is without Prins Thomas. An artist, whose work in the studio and behind the decks are equally impressive, reinvented himself with an ‘Ambitions’ LP that came out in April last year. A remix package that includes work from Isolée, DJ Nobu and Synth Sisters hit the shelves a few weeks ago and brought us back to ‘Ambitions’ mood once again. In the mix Prins Thomas did for Dekmantel’s podcast series, Smalltown Supersound label boss takes us for a beautiful journey, the journey that is like a mood rollercoaster, very well suited for the cold weather that awaits us outside.

Vivian Koch - Groove Resident Podcast 6

The latest Groove Resident Podcast comes from Vivian Koch, and it’s a true mind bender. The resident of Berlin’s Griessmuehle club took us for quite a ride with this mix and showed us her undeniable talent to blend various genres of electronic music into a powerful story.

Claro Intelecto - Bleep Mix #86

This is a very special mix from Mark Stewart aka Claro Intelecto with which he celebrates his latest release on Delsin Records. A few words from Mark about the mix: “For this mix I wanted to cover a variety of tempo's & styles I've been writing over the years (that go beyond Peace of Mind!) & include a few things that people wouldn't ordinarily expect to hear from me. There's a mixture of older & more recent releases, along with some new unreleased tracks which are being played for the first time.”

John Talabot at The Lot Radio 12.06.2019

Hivern Discs head honcho, John Talabot was a special guest during the majestic 15yr Anniversary celebration of NY’s own Fixed a few weeks ago. Before one of the best parties last year that took place at Good Room with John Talabot behind the decks, JT himself had a quick stop at The Lot Radio where he presented us with some obscure, uncanny and truly special music during his 2hr set.

Nuno Dos Santos - Yearmix 2019

As per tradition during December, some DJs post mixes with their highlights of the year. Nuno’s ‘end of the year’ mixes are some of my favorites, and this year is no exception. Slowly evolving from deep and dubby moods into a breakbeat and electro, with tracks by Forest Drive West, Tracey, DJ Nobu, Barker and Donato Dozzy just to name a few, this mix is a must listen.

Manamana at ://about blank 11.22.2019

Live recording from Manamana? Um, yes please! Leipzig based duo never ceases to impress us with their immaculate selection. Whenever they play as Manamana, Sevensol and map.ache deliver a perfect blend of past, present and future. You listen to their sets and you get flashbacks from the times when you started listening to electronic music and then, in the next moment, you hear something new, fresh and most likely something that will come out in the next few months. But that’s not the point--music should not be categorized by release date--the point is that Manamana creates a specific feel good vibe on the dance floor with their music that is hard to match. This is the recording from Berlin’s ://about blank, and it’s Manamana in their element. Crank this one up!

Neel - hybrid live at ‘Under The Stars’

What a treat this mix is! Italian deep techno maestro, Neel, and his hybrid mix recorded live in Moroccan desert as a part of ‘Under The Desert Stars’ festival. The mix is full of textures and quite moody, something you would listen during the late nights. Lose yourself in this unique deep techno voyage.

Toma Kami - Oscillate Recording No11

Parisian Toma Kami stole our hearts with releases on labels like Livity Sound and Oscillate. This is the recording of his peak time set which was recorded at Berlin’s ://about blank at 24hr Oscillate event, and it showcases Kami’s talent to blend complex rhythms and deliver high energy mix. BPM will go up in this one, and we mean uuuuuup! Get ready.

Skee Mask - ITPS046

The last podcast of the year in Ilian Tape series comes from their affiliate, Skee Mask. Incredibly talented Munich based producer, delivers true ‘tour de force’ mix suitable for peak times on the dance floor. Fast paced techno and rave FTW!

Kamran Sadeghi - Global Vibe radio 189

NYC based multimedia artist, Kamran Sadeghi, doesn’t fail to impress us with whatever new comes out from his studio. This time we have mind-bending techno mix exclusive for 6am collective from LA. Top notch late night dub techno!

Personal Message - MVF Podcast 003

Enigmatic Hamburg-based producer Personal Message released yet another phenomenal EP through Solar Phenomena a few weeks ago, and in light of that release, PM made this glorious, eclectic dance floor mix. Personal Message takes a listener on quite a ride here, ranging from ambient to techno to house to acid to electro and beyond.

Deadbeat - BIS Radio Show #1022

Scott Monteith aka Deadbeat is a Canadian born, Berlin based producer best known for his unique take on minimal electronic music. He recently made a special ‘holiday’ mix for Beats in Space, which is masterful eclectic voyage, perfectly suited for home listening.

C.P.I at Laut 12.06.2019

Here we have a live recording by C.P.I project (Marc Piñol and Discos Capablanca) from their recent set at Barcelona’s Laut club. 2.5hrs of pure energy and recognizable, Hivern-Discs-style, wicked intergalactic electronic music. It’s hard to put a genre etiquette to this mix and that’s the best part. It’s uncanny, moody and quite acidic. Party time!

Cooper Saver at KALT 12.14.2019

2019 was ‘the’ year for incredibly talented Cooper Saver. After numerous great mixes and releases on labels such as Permanent Vacation, Biologic, Internasjonal and Hivern Disc, Cooper rounded up the year with the recording of his set from Kalt club in Strasbourg, where he played alongside Avalon Emerson. Today’s example is a marvelous warm up set which gradually builds into full on party mode.

Nick Höppner - LYO#148

The Berlin-based seasoned producer and DJ, Nick Höppner brings us a new mixtape exclusively made for Les Yeux Orange. Nick has been an essential part of Berlin’s underground for more than 15 years and was one of the founders of Ostgut Ton. He’s been releasing music on labels such as Livity Sound, Ghostly, Kompakt and Echochord just to name a few, and, lately, he’s started his own imprint ‘Touch from the distance’ which features music by Desert Sound Colony, Opal Sunn, Brother Nebula… Nick’s experience reflects perfectly in his music, which we can hear in this mix. The mix has a ‘feel good’ stamp all over it; it’s house music at its core. This should be your essential daytime listening.

Massimiliano Pagliara - The Ransom Note Mix

Massimiliano Pagliara or Massi for short is a usual suspect here at Delayed. A long time Panorama Bar resident and Funnuvojere Records boss is known for being a versatile producer and DJ, the one who can deliver a quality DJ set in any given setting. His latest mix for The Ransom Note is a bit different than his ‘Love Sex Dreams’ mix that we featured here a few months ago. This one is more club and dance floor oriented, so put your dancing shoes on and press play.

Hisham Zahran - Year Mix 2019

Another brilliant ‘year end’ mix comes from our friend Hisham Zahran. 2hrs of blissful melodic house will cheer you up during these gloomy days.

Andrey Pushkarev - NLS011

Moscow-based Andrey Pushkarev is synonymous for quality deep and melodic techno. This genre can very easily slip into cheesy category, but not when Andrey is behind the decks. His broad knowledge of music allows him to explore new horizons and takes listeners to unique escapades. His latest mix for  Northern Light Series is deep, dub techno in its finest. Very cozy and warm mix despite the fact that this style is usually associated with cold and dark warehouses. This mix is perfect for some lazy day listening.
