Best New Mixes from February 2020

Yep, it’s that Friday in the month. These are the mixes we listened to and enjoyed the most in February. From ambient, experimental, IDM and slow electronica to radio shows and recordings from the parties. The range is wide, the quality is exceptional. Pick your soundtrack.

Pugilist - Off the Record MIx Series 8

Ahead of his debut on Rotterdam's Nous'klaer Audio in a few weeks, Alex Dickson, better known as Pugilist, made this mind-bending mix for Phonica Records' 'Off The Record' podcast series. The Melbourne-based producer takes us for a unique 36-track mix of a dark, dubby, and bass-driven ride. I enjoyed listening to this mix; it's very refreshing when a DJ goes a step forward to deliver something special. Alex is an artist to keep an eye on!

Beesmunt Soundsystem and John Talabot - BSS Radio Episode 064

What a 'double-header' we have here! Amsterdam based duo Beesmunt Soundsystem invited John Talabot for their BSS show on Red Light Radio a few weeks ago, and the three of them deliver this extraordinary 2hr journey. The first hour is BSS and the second JT, but the mix flows so well that you can't tell when they switch. The whole mix is a trippy slow burner, around 100-105 bpm, music that you can listen to at home, in a car, your subway ride…in a club, yep!

Sebastian Mullaert - Groove Podcast 243

With his Circle of Live project, Sebastian Mullaert pushes the boundaries of live performances in electronic music. For Groove Magazine's podcast series, Sebastian shared his recording from Garbicz Festival. It's a very hypnotic and uplifting mix, with signature Mullaert (and Minilogue) moments throughout the mix. This mix is one of my favorite ones of Mullaert that I’ve heard in a long time.

Call Super - Fabric 92

Yeah, I know this mix is from 2017…so what? It's been available on SoundCloud just recently, and I enjoyed going back to it. Call Super took a little different route on this mix and his style has evolved over the years but nonetheless this mix is pure gold and shows how talented this Londoner is. This is what Call Super said about the mix: I love playing every hour of the night. However, the late hours seemed strangely under-represented within this series, and I thought it would be good to start there instead of using this opportunity to add another peak time chapter to the collection'.

His Master’s Voice - IA Mix 324

I absolutely loved listening to this mix, and I listened to it several times which usually is not the case. Hannover-based artists His Master's Voice has become a usual suspect on our blog and all for good reason. His phenomenal production skills are par with his DJing skills. The track selection in the mix he made for Inverted Audio is extraordinary. The mix is moody but with a positive aftertaste.

Carsten Jost - Changingweather Classics

Ok, class! Everyone, take out your pens and notebooks and start taking notes. Today's guest professor is one of the guys who started Dial Records 20 years ago, Carsten Jost. In this mixtape, Mr. Jost will present to you many early works, let's call them classics for this occasion that influenced many artists, labels, and whole music scenes. After the class, you can head over to SoundCloud and get the entire tracklist, but for now, tune your ears and take some notes, this is where most of the electronic music you listen today came from.

Mirella Kroes - Patterns of Perception 59

The latest installment of Patterns of Perception comes from Amsterdam's Mirella Kroes. Mirella takes us on a journey to faraway places where IDM, electronica, ambient techno, and breaks all live in perfect harmony. I keep coming back to this mix, an ideal driving companion.

Konduku - Boiler Room Utrecht

No need for the introduction of Konduku here at Delayed. The Rotterdam-based producer won our hearts with his debut on Nous'klaer in 2018, and since then, we've been following and supporting his work. The recording from his Boiler Room debut brings us Konduku in full-on 'club mode.' The mix starts at a fast pace with the recognizable Konduku style of complex rhythms and trippy sounds, just to turn into a proper rave around 40min mark. Konduku shows us one more time that he's a necessary 'breath of fresh air' on the underground electronic music scene.

Molly - XLR8R Podcast 630

RDV music label boss and Giegling affiliate, Molly, made this exclusive mix for XLR8R, which I enjoyed a lot. It's a bit different than the recent Molly's online recordings, but that's only positive. As she mentioned in the interview for XLR8R, Molly wanted to present the range of music she plays out. So expect a mix which goes places, but everything is very well placed, and in no moment you'll feel that you're off track. Tune your ears for some exclusives; upcoming Orion, Ateq, and Molly are in this mix.

Avancera at Ohm 06.28.2019

The newly formed duo, Avancera (Dorisburg and Kalawila), released a debut EP a few days ago via Mountain Explosion Device. To warm things up ahead of the EP release, the duo posted this recording of their live set from the Patterns of Perception party in Berlin. Needless to say, if you're a fan of Dorisburg and Kalawila, then you're here for a treat. 3hrs of exceptional deep techno.

Queniv - Sure Thing Mix 86

Ahead of his debut solo EP on the De Lichting imprint later in March, incredibly talented, and one of our favorite producers lately, Queniv made a mind-bending mixtape for Boston-based platform Sure Thing. Amsterdam's own, Queniv has built a name as an artist who likes to explore different rhythms and is not keen on bending genres to create something exceptional. As expected, Queniv takes a listener for quite a ride in this dark and rhythmically complex journey through techno, breaks, and beyond.

Martinou - Rosa 002

I can listen to these types of mixes all day long. Melbourne based music platform Rosa invited Sewer Sender Records co-founder, Martinou, to their podcast series. Martinou didn't disappoint, similar to his productions; the mix is deep, trippy, and dark. Very well balance of deep house and deep techno with a smooth flow. I love it!

Jasper Wolff - Red Light Radio 02.06.2020

Indigo Aera Records co-founder, Jasper Wolff, stepped behind the decks of Red Light Radio to showcase what's cooking at Indigo Aera HQ. The mix contains some upcoming stuff from the label as well as Jasper's favorite's at this moment. Exceptional techno all the way.

Neele - Callshop Radio

Callshop Radio from Leipzig invited IFZ resident and artistic director, Neele, for their latest show. The incredibly talented Leipzig-based DJ brings some proper deep grooves with this mix. The atmosphere in the mix is suitable for some late nights / after party vibes, and with constant changes in rhythm, Neele keeps the listener's attention throughout this journey.

Joakim - Beats In Space #1029

Tigersushi boss Joakim revisited NYC for the first time after his move to Paris, so this was an excellent opportunity to listen to him behind the BIS decks. One of the most unique music diggers around, Joakim played a set we were hoping for. An eclectic and gorgeous collection of hard to find records. If you're keen for the tracklist, head over to the BIS website and do your homework.

Mor Elian - Dekmantel Podcast 269

What a tour de force mix from Fever AM co-founder More Elian we have here! Dekmantel's podcast series adds another gem to their list. A peak time blend of techno and electro that will make you jump out of that office chair and start the party right now. Amazing mix!

Leif - Bolier Room Utrecht

This is yet another recording from the Boiler Room's show in Utrecht. Besides Konduku's mix that we featured as well on this list, we couldn't pass on this beauty. Freerotation resident Leif takes a listener to an exciting trip through this mix. Percussive driven, as you would expect, but in this mix, Leif visits some jazzy territories as well, and makes a cool twist and turns that keep you wondering what he could drop next.

Naveen G - live at Cityfox Odyssey NYE

Prepare yourself for a cosmic voyage from Citfox's own Naveen G, who's a regular here at Delayed. This 3h recording is from the NYE Cityfox Festival, where Naveen played alongside some of the biggest names in the electronic music scene. We already know what Naveen can do when it comes to ambient sets, but this mix puts a bar another level up. Truly remarkable.

Legowelt - L.I.E.S. Podcast 61

Legowelt does not need any intro here. Dutch electronic music master is known as one of the most unique and intriguing artists on the scene. It's impossible to put him in a specific genre of electronic music because Legowelt (Danny Wolfers) has been making all kinds of electronic music under so many different aliases that are very hard to keep track of. This mix for LIES podcast series is as unique as you would expect, and I won't bother trying to define the genre of it, there's a little bit of everything. Psychedelia time!

Parris - On Cue mix

London-based Parris means business with his latest mix for DJ Mag! Wow! ‘On Cue’ series got a real gem from this super talented Londoner. Get ready to party!
