PREMIERE: PRG/M - Marchesa Deserta [Sure Thing]

People love calling this music "trippy techno".  But, to those who love to dissect, file, classify and generally annoy others with their penchant for cataloging, there is much more to the genre: there is Japanese trippy (DJ Nobu and Wata Igarashi ); there is Spanish trippy (Svreca); there is Italian trippy (insert pretty much any Italian techno producer here) and there is Scandinavian trippy (Anthony Linell, Acronym, Varg).  Each country's trippy seems to follow its own aesthetics almost to the point of unmistakably being able to identify a track's country of origin.

But, as with all musical things, mutation and cross-pollination are inevitable and it's clearly happening here.  PRG/M's excellent trippy release could be almost called "Anthony Linell and Acronym go to Italy":  the EP has all the acoustic elements of the Northern Electronics release but with Scandinavian austerity replaced with a dose of Italian playfulness.  The result is a geographically ambiguous and thoroughly enjoyable release.  Basically Swedish trippy goes on a trip.  I don’t know about you, but I am happy to follow.

PRG/M’s ‘Lenta Ginestra’ EP is coming out on September 10th via Sure Thing
