Favorite Mixes from December 2022

Since the holiday frenzy has passed and we are back to a somewhat routine schedule, it’s time to reflect on the DJ mixes we listened to during that time. Mixes that accompanied us on our travels, house parties, joggings, dot walks, car rides…

John Talabot - Études Mix #60

The master of seamless mixes and hypnotic off-kilter grooves, John Talabot, finishes the year with a splendid mix for the French platform Études. Something that Talabot does perfectly well is pacing and gradual tempo development. His mixes often start in the sub-100bpm territory and end in 120+bpm, with you never noticing that the beat is significantly higher. This mix is no different. Starting with dubby downtempo, Talabot takes listeners on quite a ride that bursts with eclecticism and hypnotic grooves.

Laura BCR at Springkell 2022

On Board Music's driving force, a label boss-lady Laura BCR presents us with 80 minutes of creme de la creme deep and dub techno. Recorded live at Sprinkgell Festival in Scotland, the set is very trippy, ideal for late nights/early mornings on a dancefloor.

Vand - Fragment 30

Our dear friend from Amsterdam, an exquisite producer and DJ, Vand, delivers an hour of slow-burner bliss, a proper antidote to the fast-paced trend that has been prevailing in the past year or so. Vand said this about the mix: 'With this selection, I stepped back into the slower territories again. The process of constructing it was a great escape from the fast-paced world around me. Some of my all-time fav tracks with an added harmonic touch.'

Joachim Spieth - Page 92

The Memoir series has been a 'must listen' in the past several years, and one must notice that it just gets better and better. Producers keep bringing their A-game for this series. For their latest installment, they invited a deep techno and ambient mainstay, the mastermind behind the AFFIN record label, Joachim Spieth. It's no secret that we admire Joachim's work here at Delayed, so it's not surprising that this mix got a 'warm reception' from all of us. During this two-hour journey, Joachim explores the depths of drone ambient and techno, which will teleport you to outer space with such ease.

Vlada - Multisexual Mix #8

Berlin via Moscow-based Vlada made an intricate house journey for Berlin's Multisex collective. The mix is in typical Vlada fashion - off-kilter and quirky tech house ready to smash any dance floor.

Andrey Pushkarev - Soundcast 4

You know that the voyage will be deep and dubby when you see Andrey Pushkrev's name on it. His latest podcast for Soundscapes is groovy and, in moments, uplifting but primarily hypnotic and hazy.

Alfred Czital - VA - X Continuous Mix

Our dear friends from Harmony Records are celebrating the eighth anniversary with a marvelous compilation featuring all the artists from their roster. Efdemin - Reclaim Your City 519

When it comes to wicked, energetic, and tasteful techno, few can match Efdemin's sharpness and brilliance. Dial stalwart brings things to the boiling point and further warps it in his latest podcast for Rotterdam-based outlet, Reclaim Your City. This mix will do wonders if you need something to get you going.

Soela - FATPOD 83

Berlin's Soela is no stranger here at Delayed. After releases on Dial, Kompakt, and Sushitech, Soela's got her music signed for another longtime favorite label of ours, Freude Am Tanzen. A few months after the release, Soela continued collaboration with the Jena-based label, this time in the shape of a DJ mix for the label's podcast series. The mix, shy of an hour, bounces from deep house to dub techno to trippy tech house and back, sprinkled with few infectious breaks, creating the ultimate late-night vibes.

Hisham Zahran - Year Mix [2022]

The 'Year Mix' from our dear friend, Hisham Zahran, is one of the mixes we eagerly waited to pop up in our feed. Year after year, Hisham checks all the boxes with these mixes. They have a perfect flow and immaculate track selection that covers many different corners of electronic music, making it very interesting to listen to, and this time is no different. Hisham perhaps added gear or two in this mix, but that fact alone made it even more fun to listen to. This mix is an ideal road trip partner.

Bas Dobbelaer - Parallel Perception episode 36

Deep, dubby, and hypnotic. That’s, in short, what an hour spent with Bas Dobbelaer and his latest mix sounds like. Amsterdam-based DJ and producer has it in cruise control while exploring the depths of dub techno.

Rødhåd - MNMT Recordings

Mike Bierbach, better known as Rødhåd, has a special place in our hearts here at Delayed. Dystopian founder and multi-disciplinary artist never cease to impress us, whether it's new music that comes out of his studio, artwork that he creates for his WSNWG record label, or like, in this case, a mind-bending DJ set. The three-hour recording we enjoyed listening to is an excerpt of his all-nighter set that Rødhåd played at Monument's tenth-anniversary party. It's edgy, driving, and energetic.

Traumprinz - Life

A few weeks ago, there was a slight hysteria among music lovers online. Everyone was heading to the same SC page (Planet Uterus) to listen to the latest mix (read compilation) 'Life' by the producer who influenced the whole generation of young producers and record labels in the past decade - Traumprinz (use whichever moniker of his you prefer, we'll stick with our favorite for this occasion - Traumprinz). Almost 90 minutes of unreleased material featured everything from ambient to deep house to breakbeat and techno with his signature melancholic pads and catchy melodies. We hope this beautiful music will come out soon enough. Until then, see you on the Planet Uterus SC page 😉.

Ben Kaczor - IA mix 370

2022 was a game-changer year for the Swiss DJ and producer Ben Kaczor. After releasing two critically acclaimed long players in one year (the first was self-released, and the second came out on Dial Records), the spotlight was undoubtedly reserved for Ben and Ben only. The mix Ben made for us in August was one of the highlights in our series, and to close the year in style, Ben made yet another brilliant music tale, this time for Berlin-based Inverted Audio. The mix is the epitome of Ben's style - deep, atmospheric, and groovy. It features music that Ben has been playing lately and some of his unreleased stuff.

The Drifter - Frau Blau Radio #028

It was a joy to listen to the latest mix from our longtime friend, the Irish DJ and producer Mark Flynn, aka The Drifter. We missed his signature 'feel-good with a twist' style, which brought us a lot of happy memories in the past ten years or so. The mix he made for Frau Blau collective from Tel Aviv shows Drifty in his element - melodic, stylish, and groovy.

IT-XPO - Live at the Supermarket

Our fellow New Yorker, IT-XPO, made an amazing live set featuring his original work that we enjoyed tremendously. An hour of the finest house music will put you in a proper party mood. This is what IT-XPO said about the set: After finishing my previous live set, "Live at the Dresser," I almost immediately started working on the next iteration. Like before, there are so many tracks you make that you're attached to but have no place for, no beginnings, no endings. This is the result of that, for the second time. To me, these works are a little faster, a bit more flexible, but with that same sentimentality. A year's worth of me.

Claudio PRC - XLR8R Podcast 779

Claudio has done it again! His latest mix for XLR8R can be used as a snippet of what Claudio plays out. It's a homogenous hypnotic music tale that comfortably sits in the deep techno realm, which Claudio is well-known for.
