PREMIERE: a773 - Sub Rotation [Selekt Sounds]
Close to home does the musical spotlight turn as today we’re happy to premiere a jazzy little number off one of Brooklyn’s newest labels, Selekt Sounds. The Bushwick based imprint has long been in making as its founder, Rupert Wall’s journey through minimal, psychedelic and more has solidified a delightfully quirky, earworm-like quality to all his dj sets and productions.
Like a musical sketchbook being flipped through before your eyes, a773’s Sub Rotation teases the mind with a variety of textures, sounds, and time signatures. Ideas spring into existence if only for a few seconds. While never once settling on common tropes, always keeping things fresh and nimble. The snares and kicks dance around warbling synths almost as if a written stream of consciousness on a page, dodging a spilled drop of water. Throughout, electrical hisses, cracks and pops provide an analog glow.
