Best New Mixes from May 2020

Summer is knocking on our door, and life is slowly moving in a direction we remember being normal. Something new will come out of this whole situation. Partying while practicing social distancing? Virtual partying? These options don't sound exciting but that will be our reality in upcoming months, and especially the latter is here to stay. Thankfully, good old listening to mixes online is stronger than ever. These are the mixes that we enjoyed the most in May. As usual, we tried to cover a broad spectrum of electronic music, so pick your ride for today and enjoy it.

Carmel - kfpnyx 019

R.A.N.D Muzik label boss, Carmel, delivers this beautiful breakbeat gem of a mix that has been on heavy rotation in the past few weeks in our HQ. Even though it's 1hr long, this mix has everything a proper mix should have, impeccable tracklist, great flow, smooth transitioning, and delightful atmosphere.

Joakim - Oddysee 005

Every mix from Joakim is such a pleasure to listen to. There's no way you can predict what you will hear from one of the most authentic DJs on the scene, but for sure - it'll be good. This eclectic escapade for Amsterdam-based platform Oddysee highlights Joakim's talent to take a listener to a unique ride that very few can match.

Lamusa II invite John Talabot - Rinse FM

French-based Hivern Discs affiliate, Lamusa II invited label founder John Talabot for a session of intricate and eccentric vibes at his Rinse FM radio show. Both artists dug deep in their crates and delivered remarkable mixes that make this radio show a definite stand out.

Jane Fitz live at Garagenoord Dec 2019

Live recordings of Jane Fitz in action are always a treat. This one is from December 2019 recorded at Amsterdam's Garage Noord during the 'Charlie & Joss invites' party. Needless to say, it's quite a ride. Jane visits all the corners of electronic music during this four and a half hour mix with impressive progression and unmatched energy.

Iron Curtis at This is Not…A Party ADE 2019

This party was one of my highlights at last year's ADE. 'This is not...a party' crew created a warm and cozy atmosphere at Atelier with a very cool line up. One of the headliners and my favorite from that night, Iron Curtis, brought up the positive, feel-good vibes. This set showcases how diverse and exciting house music can be. It's all about the vibes!

Oberman @ Club & VICE Isolation Rave

Oberman's mixes usually feel like a sneak preview of what to expect from Nous'klaer Audio in the coming months, and I'm saying that in a most positive light. In his latest mix for Isolation Rave, you can hear some new stuff from Nous' usual suspects - Oceanic, Tammo Hesselink, Konduku, and Koraal, just to name a few.

Neele - Boarding Gate 043

Leipzig's IfZ stands for one of the best clubs in Germany. Its programming and residents are known for pushing the boundaries of underground electronic music to new horizons. Neele, one of the IfZ's residents and the founder of feminist movement G-edit, is known for her recognizable style that isn’t pinned to a specific genre but rather mood. Whether it's house, techno or electro, a UK bass-driven mood is always present when Neele is behind the decks. Her mix for Boarding Gate presents exactly that. Breaks, bass, and a deep atmosphere. If you ask me, that's a winning combination! I could listen to this all day long.

Mattheis - Future Intel mix

Sitting on a patio overlooking the forest and in the background, this marvelous is mix playing. Mattheis' picks for Den Haag's based radio show Future Intel are spot-on for your day to begin on a good note. Conjuring an enjoyable atmosphere made of elegant ambient pads, uplifting arps, and delicate melodies, Mattheis will set the right mood for the rest of the day.

Sheepshead & Pugilist - Newtype Rhythms #111

Another 'double-header' comes from Brooklyn based Sheepshead, and a special guest of his Newtype Rhythms show, Pugilist. The Melbourne-based artist has been in the spotlight over the last year or so with a series of great releases accompanied with exceptional mixes. Both hours of the radio show (first is Sheepshead, second Pugilist) are filled with deep dubby vibes. Expect tracks by some of Delayed's favorites such as Forest Drive West, Deadbeat, Valentino Mora, Konduku, and Artefakt, just to name a few.

DJ Krush - The Beginning MIx

One of the pioneers of trip-hop, and artist that had a significant impact on my music taste in the '90s, DJ Krush, posted this mix a few weeks ago. It was quite a surprise since you don't see mixes from him online that often. I loved it, and I didn't want it to end. I wish there are more mixes like this online nowadays.

D.Tiffany - Dekmantel 282

Vancouver born, Montreal based Tiffany D. has been internationally recognized ever since her Blue Dream EP. Planet Euphorique label founder is known for energetic sets that blend house, breakbeat, and electro. Her latest mix for Dekmantel podcast is in real party mode with slick track selection and engaging progression.

DJ Healer - Ins Herz der Dinge Lauschen

Planet Uterus, the SoundCloud page from a mysterious German producer known as Traumprinz, DJ Healer, P.M.O.D (there are few more, but you know who I'm talking about) has recently been updated with this 35min mesmerizing ambient mix. Signature long, soft pads, melancholic melodies, and drone atmosphere are a leitmotif in this serene mix.

Claudio PRC - Blitz Live

Italians are really good at this deep techno thing, right? Claudio PRC, a Semantica Records affiliate, is yet another talented DJ and producer that keeps bringing something new and fresh on a deep techno table. His mix that was recorded live at Munich's finest - Blitz is real ear candy for all deep atmospheric techno fans. It has a lovely flow and smooth transitioning. I have to admit; it's been on several times already.

Cleveland - DIM 210

Our recently featured 'artist of the moment,' Cleveland takes a listener to yet another voyage filled with broken rhythms, bleeps, clacks, and all those unique sounds he mastered so well. A few words from Cleveland about the mix: ‘this mix represents the music I like: unconventional left-field weirdo techno non-techno. Some kind of trippy rollercoaster in an awkward dream. It includes recent findings on Bandcamp; music from friends and labels I love’.

Dorisburg - Under Bron Podcast

Dorisburg goes deeeep! Well, that's not big news. Aniara Records affiliate is known for his deep and dubby take on house and techno. And while this mix is not as long as the recording we featured last month, it's equally impressive in terms of track selection. If you're in the mood to get lost in your mind's depth with headphones on, this mix will do the magic.

DJ Counselling - Magnetic Mix 098

'Feel good' house music extravaganza by DJ Counselling. The London-based artist brings his signature positive vibes with the latest mix he made for Magnetic Magazine. I enjoyed listening to this mix tremendously during a car ride on a sunny day; it was a perfect pairing.

Zig Zach - Huntley’s + Palmer radio show

Blackout Agency founder, a Singapore-based DJ, Zig Zach, has been keeping things' fresh' and on point on the Asian underground music scene for several years. A few weeks ago, he was a special guest at Huntleys + Palmers' Rinse FM radio show, where he played this wicked set. The set is groovy, dark with a cosmic 'new wave' feel to it. Think of Hivern and Correspondant styles walking hand in hand.

Riccardo Villella - Mix 092

The mastermind behind Truants podcast series, Londoner Riccardo Villella takes us for a deep and moody techno trip in his latest mix for Boston-based music platform Sure Thing.

Inland - Groove Magazine 253

Ed Davenport aka Inland, made this outstanding contribution for Groove Magazine's podcast series. Constructed entirely from his new productions, edits, and bootlegs, the mix doesn't step back in any moment in terms of energy and engagement.

Sven Weisemann - Poems To Heal Yourself mix

Such a beauty of the mix by Sven Weismann. A flawless combination of deep house and breakbeat. Soulful vibes all over it. Sven has been on fire lately with the last couple of mixes I heard from him.
