Best New Mixes from September 2016

September brings us the end of summer which means taking a break in rooftop and boat partying but club season is getting in full swing. We have compiled 20 mixes that we liked the most in month behind us. From laid back downtempo, to melodic house and techno mixes by astonishingly talented Powel, Christian Loffler, Cubicolor, The Drifter, Rancido, Malbetrieb, Mind Against, Sandrino, Human Machine, Jonas Saalbach, Yano, Gilles Wasserman, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Tijana T, Slam, Rampa, &ME, Steve Bug, Joe Foxton, Estroe and Lane 8. Powel - Robot Heart, Burning Man 2016

Powel has been on our ‘radar’ since his early works. Deep, a warm and mellow house that he produces found a way to hearts of many fans around the globe, including two masterminds behind All Day I Dream brand – Matthew Dekay and Lee Burridge. After releasing on ADID and numerous parties that he played alongside Dekay and Burridge, Powel’s career skyrocketed. Well deserved recognition allowed Powel to play at one of the most original and inspirational places for a DJ – Robot Heart bus at Burning Man. Inspired by the whole atmosphere Powel delivered stunningly beautiful mix full of tracks that can be listened on repeat hundreds of times.

Christian Löffler - Groove Podcast 075

Christian Loffler is astonishingly talented artist whose style has become synonymous for emotional, melancholic house music. His second full-length album titled ‘Mare’ is set to be released in October via his own Ki records. Titles of his albums ‘A Forest’ and ‘Mare’ reveal where Christian gets his inspiration from – nature. Growing up near Baltic Sea surrounded with nature impacted Loffler’s style in a way that it’s full of organic sounds and melancholy. Cubicolor - When We Dip 069

September was a big month for Amsterdam based band Cubicolor because of the release of their debut album Brainsugar via Anjunadeep.  Cubicolor previously consisted of two members – Peter Kriek and Ariana Olierook but recently they welcomed Tom Digby Bell to band with whom they collaborated on couple of tracks in a past. In a light of album release Cubicolor made this beautiful one hour mix for When We Dip podcast. This is one of those mixes that you can listen multiple times and don’t get tired of it. Low in tempo, rich in haunting vocals and melodies, this mix will certainly bright up your day. 

Hivern Discs Radio Show

Hivern Discs is label founded by John Talabot in 2008 and it’s famous for its sample-based disco-pop house and electronica. In first few years label released only works from Spanish producers but in the last couple of years imprint opened its doors to international super talents like Roman Flugel, Red Axes, Dorisburg, Marvin & Guy, Man Power and others. Hivern Discs founder John Talabot and label A&R Daniel Baughman selected some of their favorite tracks from the label’s catalog as well as some forthcoming music and never-to-be-released material for a Carhartt WIP Radio show and Daniel Baughman mixed it all down in the Hivern way.

The Drifter – N.A.M.E festival podcast

One of our favorite producers, dj’s and a good friend Mark Flynn aka The Drifter delivers yet another fabulous mix for our enjoyment. We had privilege to host The Drifter at our boat party in August where he played start to finish set which goes in to history as one of the epic ones. Perfect track selection and flow of Drifter’s mixes puts him shoulder to shoulder with top league DJ’s. This mix is no exception. It’s made for French N.A.M.E festival where The Drifter will perform among likes of Stephan Bodzin, Laurent Garnier, Ben Klock and others

Rancido - The Sound Of Connaisseur #053

Rancido is yet another talented artist hailing from ever inspiring Dutch music scene. Rancido is fairly new to the scene but he already managed to have releases on two highly acclaimed record labels – Innervisions and At Jazz Records. This mix he made for radio show ‘The Sound of Connaisseur’ which broadcasts bi-monthly on Ibiza Global Radio. The mix is deep groovy house with tracks from Frankey & Sandrino, Peter Pardeike, and M.A.N.D.Y to name few. Very smooth flow and great track selection shows Rancido’s undeniable talent behind the decks.

Malbetrieb - Chapter 24 Records X When We Dip

Niels Schilder aka Malbetrieb is no stranger to FictionLab, being a resident at one of the best clubs in Netherlands – Paradigm, gave Niels opportunity to develop his style into very melodic and original techno and house. This mix was made ahead of Malbetrieb’s gig at Chapter 24’s showcase at ADE this October. Chapter 24 has been one of the best young labels around, and we fully support them. Fantastic mix from start to finish! 

Joe Foxton - NYC Techno Podcast 053

One of our residents, Joe Foxton made a beautiful music tale for NYCTechno podcast. Here's what Joe said about the creative process behind this mix: 'In this mix I did something a bit different than my normal jam… I embraced the dramatic arpeggiated melodies that seem to be pervading underground dance music in NYC this summer.'

Mind Against - BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix

Big part of Italian techno renaissance goes to Life and Death label whose artists evolved techno in to more melodic but still dark and moving genre. Mind Against is project by two brothers, Alessandro and Federico Fognini, whose international success simply exploded after their first release ‘Atlant’ on DJ Tennis’ Life & Death label. Release after release Mind Against showed that future of melodic techno is in their hands. Few weeks ago they got an honor to make infamous Essential mix on BBC 1 Radio, and they did it with style. 2 hours of dark melodic techno in recognizable Mind Against style is a perfect companion for late night excursions.

Sandrino - DGTL Podcast 043

One of the hottest acts at this moment in electronic music scene is for sure duo Frankey and Sandrino. Duo who is behind some of the biggest tracks in past few years is touring the world and shows their fans that they are equally talented behind the decks as they are in studio. This mix was made by one half of duo – Sandrino and it’s exclusive for Dutch promoting team behind DGTL festival ahead their parties on Amsterdam Dance Event later in October. It’s a beautiful music journey in typical Sandrino style, deep, emotional and melodic. 

Human Machine - Muting The Noise 008

Italian project Human Machine struck dance floors around the world with their 146 EP earlier this year. Human Machine was created by four friends  - Musumeci, Sisio, Simeone and Pavi in Sicily with one goal – to make music in order to dance. They describe their style as the sound of humans merging into machines. This mix is podcast for German record label and shop - Muting the Noise, and it’s melodic deep techno tale that will make you dance, just as Human Machine’s motto is. 

Jonas Salbaach – Live at Pleinvres Festival

Super talented young producer hailing from Germany, Jonas Saalbach gained respect and appreciation from fans and fellow producers around the world shortly after couple of his releases on labels such as Einmusika, Underyourskin, Crossfrontier and Bedrock to name few. We’ve been listening to Jonas’ live shows for years now and we can tell that Jonas is really intuitive when performing live. His shows are always different, groovy and club ready. This set is no exception. Recorded live at Pleinvrees Festival in Amsterdam, this set shows all Jonas’ talent to shake the dance floor with live set made completely of his own material. Melodic house in its best.

Yano B2B Gilles Wasserman - Live at Ibiza Sonica Radio

One of our residents, Gilles Wasserman got fantastic opportunity to play at infamous Ibiza Sonica Radio earlier this month. He was accompanied by his friend and Black Peters record label boss Yano for amazing B2B sessions. Studio of Ibiza Sonica Radio was bouncing to the rhythm of Love Over Entropy, Deetron, Joris Voorn and Lost Scripts to name a few. Groovy, pulsating beats make this mix great companion for a night out preparation.

Kollektiv Turmstarsse – Playground #24

German duo Kollektiv Turmstrasse has been around for around ten years now, and during that time they managed to become one of the hottest acts on electronic music scene. They are one of the leading artists from Hamburg based Diynamic Label ran by Solomun. This podcast is exclusive for Playground radio show on Studio Brussels and it’s made exclusively from new, old and unreleased tracks and remixes by Kollektiv Turmstrasse. 

Rampa vs &ME - The Main Room at DC10, Ibiza

Keinemusik is German imprint ran by Rampa, &me and Adam Port. mprint has been around since 2009 and it focuses on quality rather than quantity. Each year there are 5 new releases on the label and some of the biggest tracks in last few years are part of Keinemusik catalog. Label bosses Rampa and &me took over one of the best clubs on White Island, DC10 for powerful b2b set. Percussion driven, groovy and pulsing set put crowd in ecstasy and we are sure you’ll feel the same while listening to it

Steve Bug - Minimal Effort Halloween Podcast

Steve Bug is certainly one of the producers whose original work shaped electronic music in the way it is now. Being a label boss of Poker Flat, Dessous and Audiomatique gave Steve opportunity to work with many talented producers. Catalogs of those 3 labels feature legendary artists as well as newcomers. Even after 20+ years in industry Steve Bug manages to keep his sets and sound fresh and innovative. Steve made this mix ahead of his LA gig at Minimal Effort party  Halloween and this is how he describes it: ‘For this podcast I decided to create a very special house mix featuring my favorite house tunes of the past few years, from deep and beautiful to ruff and nasty and back again. I hope you enjoy it’.

Tijana T - Beats in Space #853

One of the ladies who shook techno world like storm is for sure Tijana T. Hailing from Belgrade, Serbia, Tijana started DJing after years spent as a TV and radio host at one of the most popular TV and radio station in Serbia . Collaboration with infamous Abe Duque helped her break the ice of international success. After that Tijana’s DJ career skyrocketed. She’s been playing regularly from Berghain to Ibiza to New York. Sharing decks with biggest names in techno world and playing real raw techno music gained her respect from fellow DJ’s and fans around the world. New York crowd had a chance to hear her mighty set at Bunker party few weeks ago, and while she was in NYC, Tijana stopped by Tim Sweeney’s Beats in Space radio show and delivered this amazing set. It’s groovy techno mix, which consist tracks by some of the legendary producers like Marshal Jefferson, Tevo Howard and Chez Damier just to name few. Smooth techno tale by one of the leading female Dj’s at this moment.

Slam - Sub Club In Residence MIx

Stuart McMillan & Orde Meikle better known as Slam are true legends in electronic music world. This duo from Glasgow have been around for more than 25 years and what is even more fascinating all that time they kept their style truly underground. Slam run Soma record label which released very first release from infamous Daft Punk back in ’96 and also features other legendary artists like H Foundation, Silicone Soul, Funk D’Void, Surgeon and many others. 3 years ago Slam started their ‘Slam Radio’ which delivers some of the best DJs and music that techno has to offer to a massive and loyal weekly following, with a truly underground flavor. This mix was made exclusively for RA’s ‘In Residence’ series where RA presented infamous Sub Club in Glasgow where Slam are residents. It’s masterfully executed mix which shows why Slam have been on the top for so long. 

Estroe Invites September 2016 Mix

Estroe Roozendaal or just Estroe is producer and DJ from Rotterdam who has been around for more than 15 years and is known for her dark minimal techno sound which gave her opportunity to play venues from Berghain to Tresor to Watergate. She also runs Rosedale Records label which aims to showcase hand-picked producers sharing sides with remixes by techno’s establishment and some of Estroe’s new discovered talents via her own producer advice company. Amazing one hour mix from this techno lady presents what is new on world techno scene.

Lane 8 - Fall Mixtape 2016 Mixtape

Daniel Goldstein aka Lane 8 is American producer and DJ who’s been releasing on London powerhouse Anjunadeep for couple of years including his full length album titled ‘Rise’ in 2015. Lane 8 found his niche in groovy melodic house and this ‘Fall mix’ of his proves that.
